Research Assistant: Kathleen Matson
Our research team at George Mason University, College of Education is seeking to interview Black mathematics teachers by Skype, phone, or face-to-face (if in the DC Metro region) who are currently teaching elementary, middle, or high school mathematics. Teachers who teach other subjects in addition to mathematics are welcome to participate.
We are addressing the following research questions:
- What are the paths to teaching mathematics for the Black mathematics teachers (BMTs) in this study?
- How do BMTs describe their purposes for teaching mathematics?
- How do BMTs see race “at play” in their work (e.g., with other colleagues, students, parents, administrators)?
- Why have veteran BMTs (10+ years of teaching) in this study chosen to continue teaching?
If you or someone you know would be interested in participating, please click on the participant sign-up tab above. Each participant will be entered in a raffle to win a $50 Amazon gift card. If you would like any more details please contact us, and we will get back to you promptly. Thanks in advance for your consideration.
